What is an Audiologist?Audiologists are professionals who specialize in the evaluation and non-medical treatment of hearing loss. Audiologists have extensive training and skills to evaluate the hearing of infants, children, and adults. Both of our audiologists conduct complete diagnostic audiological evaluations, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, vestibular function testing to evaluate dizziness and vertigo, and auditory evoked potential testing to evaluate neural disorders of hearing. Audiologists are not medical doctors but have more graduate level training in the evaluation of hearing loss than any other profession. They must possess at least a Master’s Degree in Audiology, however, the profession has been advancing toward a doctorate level of study. Audiologists must be licensed in the state in which they practice. The American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA) and/or the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) certify most audiologists nationally.
